Last week of the year!

I cannot believe we only have three more days left at school for the year! Time really has flown by this term that is for sure!

Before I outline what is happening this week, I just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone connected to Room 12 - our children, parents, grandparents, siblings and community members who have supported us along the way. We have had such a fun, exciting and successful year that has been jam packed with a variety of different learning experiences ranging from classroom challenges, team building activities, school events and sports days, through to trips to parts of our community, volunteer experiences, and unleashing our Christmas spirit in an entertaining end of year assembly. None of these would have been possible without the immense support we have received from our whanau and community...so thank you so much! From me personally, I want to say thank you to you all for making my own personal transition into St Mary's and Room 12 so welcoming and exciting right from the get go. I have absolutely loved working with you all, and hope everyone will keep in touch in the future.

Now to the details for this week...

MONDAY:
* Decorating our gingerbread houses (make sure you bring decorations to school tomorrow if you didn't bring them last week).
* Meeting our 2019 classes - this is in the afternoon for around 30 minutes and is an important time to familiarise ourselves with who our classmates and teacher will be for next year. Year 6s will have another activity during this time.
* Cleaning out our own learning trays and taking books home - Please bring an extra sturdy bag (fabric probably better than plastic) to put all of your belongings in that you have been keeping at school. You will take them home today.

TUESDAY:
* Prizegiving at 9am in the Hall - Whanau welcome. If your child is receiving an award they will have had a small blue slip inside their report that went home on Friday.
* Celebratory lunch - Ranolf Medical Centre have gifted us a pizza voucher (to say thank you for our garden display), so we will be having a pizza lunch on Tuesday.
* Secret Santa Game - please bring back your filled secret santa bag by Tuesday morning. We will be playing the secret santa game just before lunch!

WEDNESDAY:
* Year 6 Missioning at 11am - Whanau welcome. This is a special time to say goodbye to our wonderful year 6's...we are going to miss you so much but wish you all the best as you move into year 7 next year.
* School finishes at 12pm - Please collect your child from Room 12 at 12pm on Wednesday.

Thank you again to everyone in Room 12. We have had a wonderful year and I am so proud of every single child in our class. I will miss you all next year (I know we will keep in touch and see each other around school), but wish you all the best and know you will all continue to grow, show excellence, and be HAPPY and CONFIDENT next year! Have a wonderful, safe and blessed holiday with your families and friends. See you in 2019!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Important notice for Year 3-6 students

This week our school has been part of a Ministry of Education funded project ensuring our school has completed 'Migration to the Cloud." Sometime, after school finishes and before Christmas, students in Y3-6 will probably notice they have been signed out of their school google learning account. New login details will be provided at the start of the next school year.

Gingerbread Houses: We are so lucky to have the wonderful and creative Mrs McCashin with us in Room 12, and she has offered to help us all make our own mini gingerbread houses! Production Costumes

Room 12 students all need to bring their own plain black leggings/pants/jeans to be used as part of their costume for our production. T-shirts are being made for them.

Can you please bring your leggings in a NAMED bag to school as soon as possible (before Thursday please), so we can have them kept safely at school until we have completed our Production performances - you will then be able to take them home again.

Thank you!

Week 8

Week 8 is a busy week! Our countdown to production and the end of term are both speeding along!

What is happening in Room 12 this week?
Advent Calendar Challenge: This week we only have 2 days together as a class (Tuesday and Wednesday) due to other school wide events. Due to this, I have planned an integrated challenge in the Christmas spirit - Children will be given a 'secret person' (from our class) and they will need to design and create an advent calendar that focuses on kindness and making their secret person smile each day. At the end of the day on Wednesday we will give our calendars to our 'secret person', and will be kept in class so every child can start the day by revealing a nice comment on their calendar written for them. If your child has any crafty items that will help with this at home then they are more than welcome to bring them in.
Production Rehearsal: Monday is another big rehearsal day - main cast will be out rehearsing all day up until lunchtime, and the rest will be out for either the morning or middle block. Please keep practising at home as well...one week to go!
Assembly: We are on assembly this week - this starts at 2.05pm on Friday and we would love for our whanau to attend. We will be sharing our projects from the term and are planning on having a Christmas surprise at the end (which we will be practising tomorrow afternoon). If you have any Christmas dress up items at home we would really appreciate borrowing them for our skit if possible.
Learning Celebrations: Learning celebrations are on Tuesday afternoon between 3pm and 5pm. We would love to see all of our whanau there - it is an opportunity for your child to share and celebrate their year of learning with you. Please arrive by 4.30pm at the latest, as the classroom will be closed by 5pm. It would also be appreciated if you could let me know an estimate of the time you are coming if possible. Thank you.
Year 6 Pilgrimage / Year 5 Leadership Day: Thursday is our Year 6 Pilgrimage - a notice went home with the details for this. Please let me know if you do not have one. Year 5s will come to school as per usual and will be doing leadership building activities for the day.
Totora Fun Fair: Friday is our Totora Fun Fair. Children can come in mufti to school, and we will be running a variety of fun activities that children can opt into for the morning and middle blocks of the day. This is our end of year celebration.

Christmas Packages for Lara Lodge Residents

When we returned from our visit to Lara Lodge, Room 12 decided that they would love to celebrate Christmas with the residents of Lara Lodge. We decided that we would use our creativity skills to create individual Christmas Packages for each resident. We have decided that each package will include:
* A Card
* A Packaging Item (Box, basket etc)
* 2 other Christmas themed creations.

We are also going to do some baking for the staff at Lara Lodge to share.

Have a look at some photos of us in the process of making these packages!

Week 7 Notices

Kia Ora Whanau,

I hope you have all had a glorious weekend despite the gloomy weather we have been having. This week is one of our final consistent weeks in our classroom, as with the end of the year nearing and production nights approaching there will be children in and out of the classroom for various things.

We had a very successful visit to Lara Lodge for our Volunteer Project. The children blew me away with how respectful and positively they interacted with the elderly; I am incredibly proud of them. Due to how successful this was, as a class we have decided to make individual Christmas packages for each of the residents. These are meant to be crafts, but children may come home with some items they need to bring in for their creations (such as empty jars etc). We will be working on these this week, and hope to have them completed by the end of week 8.

Here are the notices for this week:
Swimming: We are scheduled to have swimming on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week in the afternoons. The weather is not looking promising, but hopefully we will be able to still go. Please remind your child to pack their togs on these days this week.
Production Rehearsals: Our class will have rehearsals every day throughout week 7 and 8. Main actors will then have further rehearsals on top of this. It is really important that we all practise our parts at home as well, and keep a positive attitude towards this.
Ahurei Performance: Our Kapa Haka group are performing this week on Wednesday. Tickets are available and the show begins at 7pm.

Looking Ahead to Next Week (Week 8):
Student Led Celebrations: On Tuesday, week 8, we have student led celebrations. This is not a parent teacher interview, but a time where your child can share their proudest moments and achievements from this year with you. It would be great to see you all there, and will be happening straight after school next Tuesday.
Year 6 Pilgrimage: This is on Thursday in week 8 (6th December). A notice will be coming home this week with more information about it.
Assembly: Friday next week is our assembly day. We will be planning our assembly over the next week and would love for our whanau to attend! It will be on Friday 7th December starting at 2.05pm.
