Week 2

Good Evening Whanau. I hope you have all had a fun weekend and have settled back into school routines. Thank you for being understanding of my absence last week. Mrs Bye (our lovely reliever) left very positive feedback for how the children settled back into school and the positive attitudes they had all week. I am very excited to be back with our class again and am looking forward to another fun and successful term.

This week our Totora team are starting our exploration taster sessions. These will be held between 11 and 12.30 on Friday's and will continue for 3 weeks. The purpose of these sessions are to give children the opportunity to explore a new skill and get an idea for different skills/activities they may want to inquire into for the remainder of the term. There are lots of options available that children will be able to opt into. We are excited to see how everyone connects with these activities and see what exploration journey all of our children will take this term!

This term, children will bring home a spelling worksheet & new spelling words every week, which are to be completed for homework and returned every Friday (this week it won't come home until Tuesday). If you would like additional homework, I recommend spending time on Math Whizz and Lexia to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills.

Student-Led Conferences are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please book a time to come in to celebrate learning with your child; this is a great opportunity to share their successes and talk about their goals for this term. For more information, see below...

Roll on Term 3!

I hope everyone has been having a lovely, relaxing holiday with their families. It is so important to take time out from our busy lives to spend quality time with each other.

I am very fortunate to be leaving tomorrow for an overseas holiday with my family. I am touching base with you all now to let you know that I will not be back until the Friday of the first week of term. Mrs Bye will be relieving in our room for the first 4 days while I am gone. Our program will carry on like usual so everything should run smoothly and be lots of fun!

Just a reminder that reports will be sent home in the first week, and student led conferences will be held in week 2.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Last week of Term 2!

I cannot believe it is already the last week of Term 2! Time really does fly when you are having fun (and learning lots together!) I just want to say a huge thank you to our Room 12 community for being so welcoming and supportive of me joining this term. We have built such a positive learning environment that is supportive, respectful, collaborative and all built upon our school values. I am incredibly proud of the progress our children have made this term, especially in terms of their confidence, learning attitudes and supportive team mindsets in our classroom. If we are all happy, confident and positive about our learning, then we can guarantee we will see progress in our academic results. So thank you for all of your support and I cannot wait to see what next term will bring!

Just a few notices for this week...

Next term we are going to be having a Prayer focus within Room 12, where we will be learning how to be effective Prayer Monitors who plan daily prayer time around a focus or theme. As part of this, our Prayer Monitors will be responsible for designing our Prayer Table to match their focus/theme for the week. If you have any bits of fabric, material, ornaments, candles, plants etc that you do not want anymore, we would love to add them to our class Kete of Prayer Table items (no pressure at all with this, only if you have items that you are wanting to get rid of and think would be appropriate for our Kete). Can you please send them with your child this week so we can have it all set up ready to start next term. Thanks!

WEARABLE ARTS ON FRIDAY! Our show will be at 1.30pm in the hall. If anyone is available to come into school and help our class with their creations (Monday 1.30, Wednesday 1.30 or Thursday 1.30) then please let me know. Our Whanau are also welcome to attend our show on Friday...we hope to see you there! Our creations are starting to come together and are looking really neat! There has been a lot of learning in terms of how to adapt recycled items, which recycled items will be the most effective, and a lot of problem solving and debugging to change our designs as we create them. This is a great creativity activity and it has been neat seeing our class trying to think outside the box to make their creation completely original and different from anyone else's.

Don't forget about our DISCO on Thursday night!

Friday we are having our MUFTI DAY! The proceeds of this will go towards support Caritas to help those in need. Have a look at this website to get an idea of how our donations will support those in need. Caritas - Mufti Mania
