Term 2- Week 1

I hope everyone has had a great two weeks holiday and are ready for another great term at school. There are 10 weeks of fun and learning this term.

This week will be my last week of teaching full-time in room 12. I really enjoyed term 1 and am going to miss the children dearly. I will still be popping in to see how they are getting on throughout the year, as well as bringing baby in to visit in late October :)

Fortunately, the children will be getting another lovely teacher. Nicole Hunter (nee Lovegrove) is a former St Mary’s and JPC student, and completed a teaching practicum at our school 3 years ago. For the past 2 years she has been teaching at Whakarongo School in Palmerston North. Nicole will be joining us in class this week and getting to know the children and routines, then taking over next week.

Our value focus for this term will be Excellence. We will be investigating how we can incorporate Excellence into every part of our lives.

The concept for Term 2 is Adaptation and we will be having some very interesting learning experiences related that this concept.

Hopefully your child did lots and lots of reading during the holidays and filled in their holiday reading log. These are to be handed in this week. If your child's reading log has been misplaced or they didn’t take one, I can copy one for them to backdate their reading on. 
This week I will be testing the children's reading and comprehension.

Next Wednesday and Thursday we will be having Student Led Conferences, which both Nicole and I will be at.

Student led conferences are a way of reporting, where your child is actively involved in sharing their learning with you. When you and your child arrive they will introduce you to us, show you where to sit, share their learning in their books and on their blog with you, show you their artwork around the room, then let us know when they are finished. 

During the SLC I will be involved, but not necessarily sitting with each student and parents all of the time. There might be 3 or 4 groups of parents and students discussing their work in the classroom at a time.

However, at the end of the Student led conference I aim to talk with each family about how your child is getting on at school, their progress, assessment results, and what they need to work on.

I am looking forward to seeing the children tomorrow and hearing about something fun they did during the holidays.
