Roll on Term 4!!

Kia Ora Whanau and welcome back to Term 4. I hope you have all had a lovely time with your wonderful children at home and have managed to have some quality whanau time. The sunshine today is gorgeous and it is looking like it is going to stay around for our first week back at school thankfully!

This Term is going to be a busy action packed term! We are focusing on 'SERVICE' as our class concept so we will have a few exciting projects throughout the term. Here is an outline of things we are going to be covering:

Week 1-2: Ranolf Medical Centre Garden Display - this is an initial taste into our Student Volunteer Army Project that we will do later in the term. On Tuesday, our platoon leaders will be visiting the Medical Centre to draw a sketch of the garden and ask questions about what they want us to create. Back at school, the rest of us will be 'Doers' and be responsible for creating various garden sculptures that relate to the theme of Spring.
Please bring to school any cleaned plastic bottles, milk bottle caps, tin cans, cardboard or any other recycled goods you think would be beneficial for our creations.
Thursday 25th October between 9 and 10.30 will be our ACTION day - we will walk down to Ranolf Medical Centre to put our garden display together. If you are available to help out with this please send me an email, text or a note to school to let me know.

Swimming: We have swimming every day each odd week (week 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9). Our time for swimming is between 11.30 and 12, so should be nice and warm by then. Please bring your togs, towel, swimming cap and goggles every day during these weeks.

Go4It: Go4It will be continuing on Thursdays until week 6 or 7 this term. Please bring your PE gear for these sessions.

Athletics: Athletics is in Week 4, so in preparation for this we will be having Totora athletic afternoons every Monday and Wednesday. Please bring your PE gear on these days.

Puberty Talks for our Year 6's: On Tuesday 23rd October we have a parent evening at 5pm about these puberty sessions. The sessions with the children will then be carried out during week 4.

Production: We have production in week 9 of this term. During our class's weekly Dance and Music sessions they will be learning dances and songs for our production. There will also be auditions for main roles this week.

Student Volunteer Army: Between now and Week 6 our class will be finding a local issue, planning a way we can support a solution to the issue and then carrying out action to support the cause. We will be needing whanau support with this so please keep an eye out on the blog for what support is needed and when. For now, it would be great if you could support your child in researching and discussing local issues that may appear in the news or just be a good cause (for example these could be environmental-based, for people in need, neighbourly projects, public spaces, or with the elderly etc).

Value focus on JOY and CREATIVITY: These values fit in nicely with our concept of 'SERVICE'. We will be learning about how to bring joy to others and ourselves, and how to be creative when we do this. Our projects will support these values, and in addition we will be continuing mindfulness each afternoon and beginning to put entries into our own gratitude journals each day.

Homework: After talking with the class last term they suggested we do the spelling sheets in class and make homework tasks more fun and project based like our challenges. We will now be having one or two week based homework projects, which will come home on a Monday and be due the following Friday (or the week after). These will link in with our concept and may include continuation of the projects we are doing in class. Please make sure your child has a homework book to put these into.

Lots of things happening this term but at the same time they are all very exciting things and I cannot wait to see the engagement, motivation and learning our children will have with these experiences. It is going to be an incredible term and a great way to end the year with a bang!

Thank you for your ongoing support towards our wonderful Room 12, we couldn't do any of this without you!

Have a wonderful Sunday and I cannot wait to see all of your smiling faces tomorrow!
