SVA 2.0 - Lara Lodge Care Home Project

Our Student Volunteer Army 2.0 Project is well underway! At the end of week 3, Room 12's SVA voted on designing an intergenerational project where we visit residents at Lara Lodge Care Home and use our creativity skills to bring joy to their day. Last week (Week 4) our wonderful Platoon Leaders (KJ and Alan) worked hard to 'visit and vet' the lodge, with the aim of putting together a plan (collaboratively with staff from Lara Lodge) to design the best way we can bring joy to their residents. They reported their findings back to us and we now have a PLAN and are spending time in class this week to get everything organised!

Here are some photos of our Platoon Leaders in action during their 'Visit and Vet' experience.

And here are some photos of them reporting back to our TEAM!

So...where to next?

Throughout this week and the first two days of next week, we have LOTS of planning and organising to do. This includes many things such as...
* Brain Gym Questions & Reading Stories: To begin our action day, we will each have an elderly friend that we will interact with for half an hour. We have planned 10 questions we want to ask them (to get their brains exercising!) and will also be writing our own short story to read to them.
* Group Activity Planning: Our platoon leaders have selected 5 'little leaders' who will each be responsible for running a 30 minute  activity with the residents (Morning tea, cat care, outdoor activities, crafts and board games). The rest of the team have opted into which group activity they want to be part of as our 'Doers'.
* Technical Pre-Action Day Organisation: Our Platoon Leaders have also selected 3 technical roles - Finance officer, Logistics Officer and our HQ-First Aid Officer - who all have particular things they need to organise prior to our action day (Budgets, transport, health and safety checks etc).
* Concert Planning & Practises: For the last half hour of our time at Lara Lodge we will be performing a concert to entertain their residents. Our Platoon Leaders will be selecting an MC and organising our team into 4 groups who will each perform a different item in our concert.
* Sharing our Story: Lola and Ryan have been employed as our 'Storytellers' who will be spending every moment capturing our entire journey from start right through to finish...producing our very own SVA Movie! Keep an eye out for updates on how they are going....they are our very own Room 12 up and coming movie producers!

Note for our incredibly support SVA Parents (we couldn't do this without you!):
Please keep an eye out for a permission slip and transport form that will be coming home this week. Our SVA need some adults to supervise on our Action Day (Wednesday 21st November 8.45am-11.30am) and to help us get to and from Lara Lodge. Our wonderful logistics officer (Emma) has worked hard to create a form and would appreciate them back ASAP so she can start collecting information to ensure we have enough helpers and car spaces for our Student Army!

What an awesome start at our second SVA project Room 12! I am so incredibly proud of how you are all working together as a united front! Roll on Wednesday 21.11.2018!
