Classroom Design Challenge

This week we have been working in groups to redesign and adapt our classroom. We needed to measure the classroom and then decide what furniture we already have that we want to keep, what furniture we have and do not need, and what new furniture we would like to buy. To do this we measured the space we have and the size of the furniture we wanted. We also looked on the Furnware website to find new furniture that we would like to have. We used this information to draw a 2D grid plan of what we want our adapted classroom to look like. Our next challenge is to create a presentation to persuade Mrs Hunter and Mr Macmillan that our design is the best and that we should buy the furniture we have included.

Today we were lucky enough to have Todd from Furnware come in and visit us! He shared some information about the company, answered questions we had about their furniture and even used a special tool on his iPad to show our plans in 3D! When doing this, we realised that some of our plans did not leave much space, so he gave us some tips for how to debug and improve our designs.

After our discussion, we spent more time working on our presentations. Some groups are making classroom models, some are doing slideshow presentations with a speech, and others are creating movies. Some groups decided to interview Todd, Mr MacMillan and other teachers to find out their viewpoints and use them to help with their persuasive presentation.

Watch this space to see how our classroom adapts over the term! I wonder what furniture we will persuade Mrs Hunter and Mr Macmillan to buy...
