Week 2

Welcome to Week 2 of Term 2! I hope you have all had an enjoyable weekend and are ready for a great week.

Whaea Eliana had her last day as Room 12's teacher on Friday. We wish her and her family the best and look forward to seeing her around school every now and then as she does the occasional relief day.

I am Nicole Hunter, and I am the new teacher for Room 12. I was born and raised in Rotorua, but have been working at a school down in Palmerston North for the past 2 years. My husband has been in the army down there, but is now making a career change which has enabled us to move back up to Rotorua. I attended St. Mary's and John Paul College when I was younger and completed one of my teaching practicums with Annie Russell at St. Mary's. I feel so lucky to be able to come back to St. Mary's as a teacher, and am really excited to work alongside you all for the rest of this year. I spent last week in Room 12 with your children; you are all raising incredible children and I cannot wait to work and grow with them this year. Please feel free to come in or contact me via email to introduce yourselves. My door is always open, so please never hesitate if you wish to have a chat about anything.

This week will be a fun week! We have a couple of challenges planned for the children to help adapt our classroom, revisit our class treaty, and set our Term 2 goals. We are going to start using recycled goods in the classroom, so if you have anything at home that you no longer need then we would love them in our class! For example, picture or chapter books you no longer want, old cushions or rugs, empty containers or recyclable products such as jars, tins, plastic bottles and cardboard.

We have Student Led Conferences on Wednesday and Thursday. Both Whaea Eliana and myself will be there and we really encourage all parents to attend. This is a time where you can celebrate learning with your child, where they can talk with you about their goals, and an opportunity for you to speak with Whaea Eliana or myself if you have any questions. To book an interview time please go to:

OR go to schoolinterviews.co.nz and the code to use is t8pq8
Wednesday  - bookings can be made from 3.15 to 5.50
Thursday -  bookings can be made from 3.15 to 4.45

Next Sunday is Mother's Day and our wonderful PTA have some lovely gifts available for children to buy for their Mothers. These will be sold in the hall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes, and cost $3 each.

Arts in Motion has been postponed until later in August rather than the original date in May. This gives us more time to practise and put it all together. Practise times will remain the same:
Wednesday 7.30-8.30am: Jazz and Lyrical
Wednesday 3-4pm: Hip Hop
We do have an Arts in Motion Blog which you can view here - http://stmartinmotion.blogspot.co.nz/

Also a reminder that Holiday Reading Logs need to be returned by Thursday this week! The draw will be done in Assembly on Friday.

Please make sure you are encouraging Cross Country Training at home - we will be doing 15mins every day at school to prepare for cross country which is coming up at the end of Week 4 (25th May)!
